Dugout Devotions | All Things New
A Fresh Season, A Fresh Start: Trusting God to Make All Things New
Baseball and softball seasons are ramping up which means it is time for another season of Dugout Devotions. Be sure to share this devotion with your favorite player, coach, or team.
Scripture—Isaiah 43:19 (NIV) – “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
Opening Question:
What would you like to have more of?
Give your player a moment to respond—maybe they’ll say more home runs, more sunny days, or more time to play baseball.
Why do you think having more of something can make us happy?
Encourage responses about how having more can bring joy, especially when shared with others.
Now, let’s think about something we all get more of in the spring—more sunshine, more green trees, and more birds singing in the morning. Have you noticed how the world starts to wake up after winter?
Let players share what they've seen—budding trees, chirping birds, or even those pesky squirrels.
Game Time & God’s Love
Spring isn’t just about warmer weather—it’s also the start of a new baseball season. That means new uniforms, new cleats, new gloves, and sometimes even new teammates. It’s exciting to start fresh, with a chance to grow, improve, and play the game we love.
Just like a new baseball season brings fresh opportunities, God gives us new chances every day. He is always making things new in our lives—helping us grow in love, patience, and kindness.
In baseball, every new inning is a fresh start. No matter what happened in the last inning, you get another chance to swing the bat, field the ball, and help your team. That’s how God works in our lives too—He keeps giving us new opportunities to learn, grow, and share His love.
Discussion Questions
How can we share love and kindness like nature shares its beauty in spring?
Encourage ideas like being a good teammate, helping others, or saying kind words.
How does starting a new baseball season remind us that God gives us fresh starts?
Players might talk about how they get to meet new teammates, learn new skills, or improve from last year.
How do you think God feels when we show love, even in small ways?
Lead the team to see that it brings joy to God when we love one another.
What’s a way we can ‘make things new’ for someone today?
This might be encouraging a teammate, picking up equipment, or showing patience when things don’t go our way.
Overflowing Love
Did you know that God’s love is like a never-ending spring? Imagine a baseball bucket full of balls—if you keep adding more, eventually, they start spilling out onto the field. That’s what happens when God fills us with love—it overflows into the world around us.
Just like the return of the birds, the blooming of the flowers, and even the squirrels racing up the trees, God is constantly bringing new life into the world—and into our hearts.
Closing Prayer
Dear God, thank You for making all things new. Thank You for the birds in the air, the flowers blooming, and even the pesky squirrels. Thank You for new seasons, new teammates, and new opportunities to grow. Help us to see the ways You are always working in the world and in our lives. May Your love fill us up and overflow so that we can share it with our teammates, families, and friends. Amen.
